  • Compound in baking soda – bicarbonate – reduces early death, study found
  • Baking soda – or sodium bicarbonate – helps regulate pH levels  
  • People with low bicarbonate levels have 24% higher risk of early death

For this reason I have decided to repost my article on the health benefits of bicarbonate of soda that I published last year:

Most people are aware of the importance of keeping our bodies in more of an alkaline state for good health and wellbeing. However, many are not aware that the most alkaline food source on our supermarket shelves is bicarbonate of soda and when mixed with lemon and water makes for an incredibly easy way to alkalise the body and help turn back the clock.

You may already know of the amazing health and anti-ageing benefits of drinking lemon water, but by adding a half teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda (also known as baking soda or sodium bicarbonate) to your morning lemon water is a super simple way to energise and invigorate your body (half tsp to a pint of water).

For some, drinking lemon water on its own can act as a gut irritant. Lemons turn alkaline when digested. However, for the first hour after they’ve been consumed lemons stay in an acidic state. It is for this reason those who have an excess of stomach acid or a sensitive stomach find lemon water irritating and can make indigestion symptoms worse. The alkalinity of the bicarbonate of soda will neutralize the initial acidity of the lemon, making it easier on digestion.

Mixed in water, bicarbonate of soda has long since been used as a remedy for indigestion, heartburn, arthritis and other health troubles. It is known to improve one’s health by maintaining proper ph levels.

Bicarbonate of soda is an alkaline substance naturally produced within the body; it neutralizes acids which helps maintain the body’s natural ph.

Sugar and refined foods are highly acidic and dangerous for the body. Eating alkaline foods, such as organic fruits and veg, and drinking lemon water with bicarbonate of soda will go a long way to restoring health whilst also being a youth-inducing elixir.
