Contrary to what many believe, avocados are actually a fruit and not a vegetable. Technically, any plant bearing a seed is classed as fruit.

All fruit and veg contain health giving components. However, avocado is way up there in ‘super-food’ department and is packed with valuable life-improving nutrients.

It has been said that avocados are the only complete food on the planet, meaning you could eat these and nothing else and happily survive. They have all the 18 essential amino acids the body needs to make a complete protein and, unlike in red meat, this protein is very easy to digest and absorb because of the high fibre content.

Avocados are abundant in the phytonutrients, carotenoids. Anything high in carotenoids will be a great source of vitamin A, which is not only beneficial for eye health but skin health too.

If attaining beautiful glowing skin is your aim, avocados contain certain chemicals that stimulate the production of collagen which helps smooth out fine lines and wrinkles. Also the high vitamin E content is perfect for keeping your skin youthful and in tip-top condition.

The combination of magnesium and vitamin K keep the bones healthy and strong and will ward off osteoporosis.

The high content of potassium is an excellent remedy for depression and exhaustion and combined with the beneficial content of B6, makes an excellent tonic for premenstrual syndrome.

Avocados are high in the incredibly healthy, monounsaturated fatty acids which are easily digested, keep you full for long periods of time and are a great source of energy.

The high lecithin content of avocados makes for great brain food helping with memory and brain function.
